The White Star

The White Star was founded in the wake of the major drought and famine in the Horn of Africa in 2011. It’s co-founders, Iman Samantar, Jasmine Samantar, and Fatima Samantar, were moved (as was the world) by the heart-wrenching reports and photos of this humanitarian crisis. The severity of this crisis became a call to arms to Somali ex-patriates around the world, to try and help heal the country that they used to call home. The White Star was created to give youths who feel too insignificant to make a difference an opportunity to stand together and help battle the famine and malnutrition that ravage Somalia.

Thank you to all of our new supporters !

While the United Nations declared that the drought in Somali is officially over, there is still dire need of world wide support and help. As exemplified by the Somali Talks meeting in London, the Horn is far from being saved.

Currently, The White Star has been collaborating with numerous groups - mainly in Washington, DC, France, and Tanzania. Talks of new projects and sponsorships will soon be underway.

More pictures from Dadaab.  This time they’re from the town of Dadaab itself, which basically is one block in length with a variety of makeshift structures that offer goods of all sorts.

A story with reading.
